Seriously in need of a nap

January 28, 2009

I am tired.

-I am tired of facilitators that can’t actually facilitate.

-I am tired of being talked over by every old white man sitting around a conference table

-I am tired of having my thoughts or ideas discredited because I am lacking white hair or outdoor pluming.

-I am tired of the whole room turning to me in unison whenever it becomes apparent someone will need to take meeting notes.

-I am tired of being called honey, sweetheart or dear by people I am not living with, drinking with or related to.

Quite frankly, I am absolutely exhausted.

I think you need to add a little Baileys to your morning coffee the next time a meeting rolls around.

    Sending you big hugs.

    Baileys is brilliant!

  2. Mike Says:

You do need me, don’t you?

    You read my mind.

  3. fritz Says:

Ahhh! totally understand! i am in agreement with the baileys in the coffee…

    Baileys makes it better.

  4. Liebchen Says:

Oh yeah, the note taking and the honeys…I’m with you.

Come to think of it, I might try the Baileys, too.

It was a pretty brilliant suggestion. I think everyone should be drinking Baileys in their coffee.

  5. Oh honey, try a pocket flask! Then you could at least be drinking withe them! 🙂

Oh, Baileys in a pocket flask. I have the best readers ever!

the outdoor pipes bit was wonderful.

but i think the Bailey’s should go in the other peoples’ coffee. you + alcohol doesn’t make the noise stop. but them + alcohol? even if the noise doesn’t stop, they’re less likely to pick up on your wonderfully crafted sarcastic remarks to their faces. and so you can at least fight back a little and leave the meeting with a smile.

Baileys should seriously look into this as a marketing campaign. It could go “Baileys: making the idiots you work with more tolerable since 1971”

  7. I am sorry – ithas to be completely exhausting to be up against all that crap..hang in there and soon you’ll find some steam!(and NOT from thier coffee..)

Thank you, unfortunately I think it is pretty typical but a specific meeting this week put we over the edge.

  8. Elizabeth Says:

Sadly I can relate to most all of that and can add: tired of not being taken seriously because I’m not sleeping with my boss. Good times.

Hang in there and in the meantime let’s go drinking!

Well that was your first mistake. Everyone knows sleeping with your boss is the best way to be taken seriously. uh, duh.

  9. Matt Says:

The baileys is a good idea. I like the way Erin thinks.

    Sorry to hear that sweetheart.

  11. Just tell them you don’t take minutes, only seconds. meh.. I’m sorry you’re so exhausted, call me if you wanna talk. love!!!

  12. Beth Says:

oh OH the sweetheart/honey this is UNBEARABLE. What is it about those two little words that is SO condescending?! I’m sorry you are so worn out… you know, we still have yet to make our winter in RI lives better by meeting for that drink. We can even have Baileys, and we need to do it soon.

one of my pet peeves is being called things like hun, sweetie, etc. I am not anyone’s hun..except maybe my boyfriend and my grandmother! I feel like it has become so commonplace that they lose their meaning, and that can’t be right, can it?

I understand! I am the “pretty physical therapist” to some of the docs I have visited. That put a kibbosh on a lot of my doctor visits.
